Sunday - January 29, 2012 - Elite 8 Tourney in Sarasota

USSSA Elite 8 Tournament Battle for the Belts

Day two of the tournament Sway really came alive.  This was his first tournament with Team Avalanche and started the first 3 games in the 8 hole.  Day two he hit himself into the 3 hole and performed really well.  He had good at bats all day long.  He also drove the ball deep more then a few times.  I was really impressed with his attitude when he failed.  I am starting to see a real sign of maturity in him in terms of dealing with failure.

Note: We need to continue to work on his approach to the ball and Right Left Field.  He needs to be lower and have his glove down earlier and more out in front.  Backhands and forehands his is amazing. The amount of range he has for his age is awesome, but balls hit right to him we need to work on footwork through the ball.

    I took Sway to MCC today for their Varsity Practice.  Coach Dooley invited him to come out and watch.  While we were there we did the following:

    Sway worked with the 12U Blackhawks today for the first time.  I was told that he performed very well with the much older kids.  I think this is what he needs to get to the next level and will prepare him to play with the Avalanche this year.  He will work with them on the field 2 times a week each week on top of the individual work we are currently doing.
