Practice from 7-8:30 with Elite Monsters inside Elite Athletes Training. This was their first hitting team practice together.
Sunday - September 16, 2012
First Practice with 11U Elite Monsters. Was a great practice and I thought Sway did really well. First time on the 50/70 field and was impressed that at 9 years old he performed well with the longer base paths. There were no issues with throws from SS, 2nd, or Catching. The extra 5' really gives him an advantage catching and he is hard to run on. The practice was very structured and believe the coaches did an overall great job teaching proper fundamentals.

He Threw a 40 Pitch Bullpen. Velocity has increased a lot in the last month or so. He is up to about 55 Consistently and occasionaly getting a few MPH harder at times. Chris Nygaard has really helped him with proper roation coming out of his hand which has really helped him not cut the ball.

Hitting Lesson with Pat Reibsame
45 Min. Primarily worked on Control in stride and keeping hands back on Changeup and Curves. He struggled a little today but I think it was good. Pat was throwing hard and close and then come back with change up. Body Control looked great but hands were getting started too early. Great lesson from Pat!

Sway had a huge weekend at the plate. He caught well and also did great on the mound. I was really proud that his hard work showed up this weekend. Some of the adjustments we have been working on really helped! I think he had 7 doubles and almost hit one out dead center field...
We took second place in the tournament. We lost to Central Florida Wolvarines who are a very good program.

Hitting Lesson with Pat Reibsame for 1 hour.
Big things we have corrected and worked on are:
Back Knee staying inside of his ankle... It has really changed his heel down process... Due to this adjustment he is having very little problem getting his foot down in time for any speed pitching. Saw 60Plus and was driving the hell out of it! Really good adjustment and looks so smooth and athletic in his load and take away. It also seems to resequence his hands and allows for true seperation of stride foot and hands and he is getting his heel down.
We are also working hard on his bottom hand... He sometimes lets the lead arm elbow pop out instead of letting it point down in power position. When he executes this his hands are so fast... Good news is that he is only 9 and has been working really hard. Fundamentally one of the best swings you will find... Very proud of him and the effort that he has put in.
OH YEA... And for all you haters out there... maybe you should spend less time hating and more time working with your own kids! LOL... You all are FUNNY and a complete JOKE... You know who you are... the GAP IN TALENT is just continuing to grow try to keep up...

June 18 - 23 AAU Grand Nationals @ Wide World of Sports
Sway played with the 10U Viera Hawks at AAU Grand Nationals. He had a really good week individually and the Hawks took 3rd place in their Division. It was a really good tournament and a great atmosphere to play @ Wide World of Sports.
Sway caught 9 out of 10 games and performed really well defensively behind the plate. He did a great job at the plate as well. Overall it was really fun to watch him play and compete against some of the best 10 year old kids in the Country. Having him play up in 10U I think was a good decision!

He beat what used to be the fastest kid in his grade in a race today. Think that really showed him that his hard work is paying off.

We played very well today. We won the first 2 games and lost to the Redhawks 10U in the final of the beach bash. Sway played very well behind the plate and hit well today too. I was really proud of all the boys today. They came back and run ruled a good cobras team who beat us 18-2 yesterday! Way to go Hawks!

This was a crazy day of weather. It was cold about 50 and wet. The boys battled and were super tough. Sway hit very well in the Championship game. I was really proud of all of our boys to come up with this victory. We now have a birth to the Elite32 in Disney this summer. That is the premiere tournament for USSSA teams.

Note: we are going to work on each day. Goal is to Load and Stride to Power position and pause (Staying Back) then hitting. Sway did really well at this today for the first time doing it.

Note: this is a new drill similar to the one above where I pause and make him get to Power position and wait simulating how you would wait on a change up or off speed pitch.

USSSA - UFC IV in Plant City
1 Hour of hitting before our games today. Team meet at Eagle Lake Cages early in the AM.
We played Wesley Chapel Storm and Sway was 1-3. I thought he caught very well and did a good job controlling the run game. We wound up beating Wesley Chapel pretty badly.
Our second game we faced the Meteors in the semi final. Sway hit the ball very well this game but 2 were caught in the outfield. He did have a big double in the top of the 6th inning to start a rally that would eventually tie the game. We wound up losing by one run in the bottom of the 6th inning. It was a great game and could have gone either way.

We played the Tampa Titans and Tied them in Pool Play.
We then Played The Bandits and beat them pretty badly.
Sway did not hit very well day 1 of the tournament. He saw a lot of change ups in fastball counts. It is something that we need to work on more.
After our two games the whole team headed back to Eagle Lake Cages and hit for two hours.
Tee & Batting Practice. Sway hit about 100 Balls total.
